How to use the Anagram Solver
Enter a word or a set of letters. Exact anagrams – words that use all your letters – appear first and are highlighted in purple. Below them you’ll find every shorter word you can make from the same letters.
Famous anagrams
Anagrams have been used for centuries in puzzles, pen names and wordplay. A few favourites: listen and silent, dormitory and dirty room, astronomer and moon starer, and the eyes and they see. Cryptic crossword setters love them too – words such as “broken”, “mixed” or “confused” in a clue often mean the answer is an anagram of nearby letters.
Tips for solving anagrams
Write the letters in a circle rather than a line – it stops your brain fixing on the original order. Try putting vowels and consonants in alternating positions, and look for common prefixes like RE, UN and DE. If you’re still stuck, type the letters above and WordWiz will show every exact anagram first.
